The FACIS project – Federation Architecture for Composition Infrastructure Services – enhances the development of collaborative ecosystems by orchestrating innovative federated infrastructures and exemplary governance frameworks (e.g., Service Level Agreements). It achieves this through the development and application of Federation Architecture Patterns (FAPs), machine-readable Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and low-code technologies. The goals include the seamless integration of different providers, the harmonisation of SLAs, and the accelerated adoption of digital services. The project supports the implementation of forward-looking applications, such as the digital product passport, AI-driven processes, and Collaborative Condition Monitoring in Industry 4.0.

By utilising European standards such as the European Digital Identity (eID) and publishing the project results as free & Open Source, FACIS reduces reliance on non-European providers. The practical applicability is demonstrated in pilot projects and test environments, for example, in monitoring production processes or optimising global supply chains within sovereign Cloud-Edge operational frameworks. In doing so, FACIS makes a significant contribution to strengthening a sustainable digital infrastructure in Europe.
