Spatial data, essential for various sectors in Europe and globally, is being heavily invested in, generating tens of petabytes annually. This data, used for applications like traffic, weather, and agriculture, needs efficient sharing, access, and processing. The management of this data is shifting towards sustainable methods, emphasising distributed cloud-edge systems and carbon-aware computing.
The Gateway – Gateway to geospatial continuum – project addresses these needs by providing a unified platform for accessing and processing spatial data. It combines tools, interfaces, and applications to streamline data access, integrating various technologies into a single market. Focused on efficient data storage and processing, Gateway utilises cloud-edge resources powered by green energy, reducing carbon emissions and costs. The project includes developing applications that leverage this data for added value, marking a significant step in sustainable data management.
