The TIM Edge & Cloud Continuum will develop a next generation Cloud-Edge continuum that is a fundamental enabler of new digital solutions that require high performance in terms of latency, minimum guaranteed bandwidth, availability, resilience and security, ensuring open and public access to all the use cases and related open data management, while guaranteeing security and compliance with EU data legislation, favouring and enabling the free flow of non-personal data, providing the foundation for European digital services, not only for big enterprises but also for SMEs and start-ups.
This project aims at promoting new disruptive solutions in terms of energy-efficiency, cloud security and openness of Cloud and Edge services notably including interoperability. To meet local – and global – customer demand for integrated and trustworthy solutions, services will need to be interconnected and federated, easy to consume, and built on common standards and values that ensure trust in data management and data exchange: security, data protection, transparency and development of the European ecosystem. A lack of interoperability prevents addressing grand societal challenges that require efficient data sharing and a multidisciplinary, multi-actor approach (climate change which cannot be addressed by climatologists alone).
