IPCEI-AI: Building a sovereign AI Ecosystem for European Industries
Artificial Intelligence is the catalyst for the next industrial paradigm shift. To strengthen Europe’s economic competitiveness and digital sovereignty, several EU Member States – coordinated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy – are preparing a joint large-scale project: the IPCEI-AI (Important Project of Common European Interest on Artificial Intelligence).
The Vision: Industrial AI “Made in Europe”
The goal is to create a powerful, sovereign AI continuum tailored specifically to the needs of the European industry. While consumer-facing generative models are widely known, IPCEI-AI focuses on highly specialized applications such as autonomous manufacturing, AI-driven logistics, autonomous driving, robotics, and the Industrial Metaverse.
Participation and Open Calls
The IPCEI-AI is currently in the Expression of Interest (EoI) phase. National calls have been launched in several Member States to identify innovative project ideas that will eventually form an integrated European project.
