The construction industry is in the midst of a major digital shift. Currently, many processes are still carried out manually, data is fragmented and rarely shared across systems and stakeholders often work in silos. This leads to delays, increased costs and hampers efforts toward sustainable construction. At the same time, there is growing demand for digital collaboration, efficient use of materials, and full transparency throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
Construct-X is part of the European IPCEI-CIS funding programme and is developing an open, secure and European sovereign data infrastructure tailored to the construction sector. Its goal is to create a shared digital foundation that enables trusted data exchange between companies – for instance, for digital material passports, automated logistics or AI-driven cost estimation. The solutions rely on a federated cloud-edge architecture and are Gaia-X compliant, ensuring alignment with European principles of data sovereignty, transparency, interoperability and security.
As part of the 8ra Initiative, Construct-X contributes to building a European cloud and data infrastructure and demonstrates, through a real-world use case in construction, how the Multi-Provider Cloud-Edge Continuum can be implemented securely, collaboratively and close to application needs.
