Phoenix Systems is developing a next generation, open-source, scalable real-time operating system for the Edge-IoT to power the distributed Multi-Provider Cloud-Edge Continuum. The project focuses on adapting Phoenix-RTOS for strategic sectors such as aerospace, space, and industrial IoT (IIoT) through prequalification packages and reference designs. Licensed under BSD and available on GitHub, Phoenix-RTOS supports ultra-low latency, scalable, and secure operations on resource-constrained devices, advancing European digital sovereignty and reducing reliance on non-EU technologies.
Abstractions and resource partitioning will allow for executing critical and non-critical applications such as aircraft cabin data management together with Aerospace and plant monitoring together with . The developed solutions will effectively minimise the energy consumption of edge devices, as demonstrated by smart metres capable of operating for up to 10 years on a single battery.
