The Hannover Messe 2026 has concluded, and for the 8ra Initiative, the week was a clear demonstration that the European Multi-Provider Cloud-Edge Continuum has moved from a strategic framework to a functional industrial reality. Across five days of intense exchange, we showcased how federated infrastructure directly enables the next generation of Industrial AI and autonomous systems.

From Architecture to Application: The 8ra Demonstrators

Our demonstrators proved that a federated approach is a primary enabler for industrial performance. Key highlights included:

  • The 8ra Central Demonstrator: Developed by SAP, Siemens, and Deutsche Telekom, this interactive hub visualised the interplay between diverse providers and services within a unified, sovereign framework.
  • Real-Time Autonomy: The projects PoQuaSIA and CUBE-C demonstrated ultra-low latency in action, featuring the live remote control of a tractor and shuttle, alongside real-time road sign recognition.
  • Human-Centred AI: Through the SOOFI project, we showcased how agent-based assistants allow SMEs to configure specialised AI models in natural language, lowering the barrier to entry for advanced LLMs.
  • Decentralised Ecosystems: Projects like RoX and GREEN-Twin illustrated how Digital Twins and robotics operate across company boundaries, ensuring interoperability while strictly avoiding vendor lock-in.
  • Connected Construction: Construct-X presented a demonstrator for the Digital Product Passport and highlighted progress toward a connected construction site, illustrating how federated data spaces bridge the gap between planning and physical execution.

High-Level Dialogue and Industry Resonance

The strategic relevance of the 8ra architecture was reflected in the high calibre of visitors at our stand, focusing on how a sovereign digital backbone can secure European economic resilience.

A central highlight was the exchange with Katharina Reiche, the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, who visited the stand to learn about the 8ra Initiative’s role in future-proofing industrial data spaces.

The industrial perspective was represented by leaders such as Tim Höttges (CEO, Deutsche Telekom), who engaged in a strategic dialogue regarding the progress of the 8ra Initiative and the specific developments within the EdgeConnect project. The international dimension of the 8ra mission was further underlined by Taro Shimada, CEO of Toshiba, who took extensive time at the stand to explore the underlying architecture and the technical foundations of sovereign, cross-provider collaboration.

As we move beyond this year’s exhibition, the focus remains on scaling these solutions and turning the vision of a federated European data space into a permanent industrial standard. We look forward to continuing these developments and presenting the next milestones of our journey at Hannover Messe 2027.
